Starting this spring, the City will have new electric vehicle charging stations at the Civic Operations Centre. You can use them to charge your car while you visit the building or pick up supplies. The City is also installing chargers for its own fleet vehicles. This project is supported by federal and provincial climate infrastructure funding.
It helps the City meet its goals in the Climate adaptation strategy. The stations are located in the main parking lot at 455 Railside Road. You can charge your vehicle for free or at a low rate, depending on the charger type. The City has installed twenty public charging spots and ten spots for City vehicles. The public chargers use standard electric vehicle plugs that work with most cars.
"We want to make charging an electric vehicle easier for everyone," said Robert Eng, City Manager. "These new stations show how we are taking action on climate change while supporting residents who drive electric cars."
The new stations will be ready for use in late 2025. The project was approved by Council as part of the City's plan to reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality. Council also agreed to expand the network in the coming years as more residents switch to electric vehicles.
