City opens applications for 2026 heritage conservation grants

Applications for the 2026 Heritage Conservation Grants are now open. The City of Wrenford is accepting proposals from property owners who plan to restore historic buildings in the city before the December 15, 2025 deadline. This grant program provides matching funds to help preserve the unique character of Wrenford's heritage neighbourhoods.

The grant covers up to fifty per cent of eligible costs for structural repairs, window restoration, brick and stone repairs, and exterior improvements. Projects must be completed by March 31, 2026, to qualify for reimbursement. You can apply online through the Economic Development portal or pick up a paper application at the Service Wrenford counter in Wrenford City Hall.

"Protecting our historic buildings is one of the best ways we can honour the story of Wrenford," said Councillor Marcus Lindqvist, Ward 1. "These grants help keep our heritage properties safe and beautiful while supporting local tradespeople and preserving the character of our neighbourhoods."

To be eligible, a property must be listed on the City's Heritage Inventory or be in the process of being designated. Applicants will need to provide a detailed plan for the work, cost estimates from licensed contractors, and photographs of the current condition. The City's Heritage & Archives Coordinator, Gwen Lachance, will review all submissions and consult with the Heritage Advisory Committee before making awards. The City encourages applicants to submit their materials early to allow plenty of time for review and contractor scheduling.

You can also connect with the Economic Development team to discuss how heritage preservation fits into broader neighbourhood revitalization goals.
