The City of Wrenford is investing $500,000 this April to help you expand your outdoor seating and activate our downtown streets. If you run a business on Mercer Street, Tamsin Street, or Market Square, you can apply for a grant to extend seating into public spaces, install weather-protected seating, and improve walkways.
Starting next month, eligible businesses can apply for funding that covers up to 75 per cent of design, furniture, and permitting costs. The City will work with the Business Improvement Area to streamline the approval process and ensure all installations meet safety and accessibility standards. Temporary weekend pedestrian zones will also be set up along key streets to connect patios and encourage foot traffic.
“We are very excited to bring more energy and activity to our commercial core,” said Isabel Moreno, Economic Development Manager. “This program gives you the tools you need to create welcoming outdoor spaces, and it makes our downtown a brighter place for residents and visitors to gather.”
Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must hold a current municipal business licence and be located within the downtown grid. The City will also offer free design workshops in April to help you prepare your proposal. Applications open on April 21, 2025, and you must submit them through the Economic Development portal by May 31, 2025.
In addition to patio grants, the program includes $50,000 for streetscape improvements like new planters, benches, and shade structures. These upgrades will be installed in partnership with the Downtown Business Improvement Grants initiative to ensure a cohesive look across the core.
