On May 12, 2025, City Council approved a new funding allocation for the Heritage Incentive Programme, with a special focus on restoring historic facades in the downtown and Old Mill neighbourhoods. This initiative supports the City of Wrenford's goal of preserving local history while encouraging responsible development.
The grants cover up to 50 per cent of eligible costs. Maintenance Grants cover routine upkeep up to $5,000. Major Grants cover large-scale restoration up to $50,000. Conservation Plan Grants cover consultant fees up to $3,000. These funds are designed to help property owners keep historic buildings safe, beautiful, and in active use.
"As our city grows, protecting our historic architecture ensures we keep the character that makes Wrenford unique," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These grants will help property owners maintain the beauty and safety of our downtown buildings for future generations."
Property owners can apply through the Heritage Conservation Grants portal. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as long as funds remain. You will need to submit a project outline and a cost estimate from a qualified contractor. The City encourages all eligible property owners to take advantage of this opportunity to improve the streetscape.
Properties that enter the programme can also qualify for a 50 per cent property tax exemption for up to 10 years. This reduction helps offset the cost of long-term restoration work and encourages owners to invest in their buildings.
