City announces 2025 heritage grants for property owners

The City of Wrenford is now accepting applications for the 2025 Heritage Incentives programme, and you can apply if you own a historic property in the city. Applications are open from November 1 to February 28 each year, and the current window closes on February 28, 2025.

This programme helps you cover the higher costs of maintaining and repairing properties that hold historical value. Financial support comes in several forms:

  • Maintenance grants cover routine upkeep and minor repairs, offering you up to $5,000 if your property is designated or $2,500 if it is on the Heritage Inventory.
  • Major rehabilitation grants provide up to $50,000 for designated properties, or cover 25 per cent of eligible costs for inventory properties.
  • Property tax exemption of up to 50 per cent of your eligible conservation costs over a period of 10 years is available for designated properties.

"As Wrenford continues to grow, Council remains committed to preserving the history of our community," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Recognizing and honouring our past is an essential part of building a better future. We encourage you to apply and take advantage of these incentives to restore Wrenford's historic properties."

To be eligible, your property must be listed on the City's Heritage Registry or Heritage Inventory. If you are not sure whether your property qualifies, you can check the register using the online tool. Once confirmed, you can submit your application through the online portal. The Heritage Rehabilitation Application Guide 2026 provides a step-by-step checklist, required drawings, and cost estimate templates to help you prepare a complete submission.

Make sure you submit your application by the February 28 deadline to be considered for the 2025 funding cycle. The Heritage Development Board reviews all submissions and recommends funding to Council. You will be notified of the decision in the spring.
