Centennial Gardens prepares for spring planting volunteer day

Join City staff and volunteers to refresh flower beds and pathways at Centennial Gardens this Saturday. On Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the City is hosting a spring planting and cleanup day at the historic gardens located at 5 Victoria Street.

This community workday is organized in partnership with the Arts & Heritage and Parks & Trails departments. Residents of all ages are welcome to help with weeding, mulching, and planting spring bulbs. The gardens have been a downtown staple since the city's early years, and the spring refresh ensures they remain a bright spot for wedding photos, community gatherings, and quiet strolls along the Tamsin River trail.

Participants will also help maintain the cenotaph grounds ahead of the upcoming Remembrance Day Service. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The City provides all necessary tools, safety equipment, and light refreshments. Please wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

"Community volunteers are the heartbeat of our public gardens," says Gwen Lachance, Heritage & Archives Coordinator. "Every spring, we rely on your hands and energy to keep Centennial Gardens blooming and welcoming for everyone."

Space is limited to 40 participants. To sign up, visit the News & Events page or call 519-555-0100. Learn more about ongoing volunteer opportunities and seasonal programming in the Community section, or check the full Parks & Trails schedule for upcoming workdays.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep our shared spaces beautiful throughout the year.
