Benchlands Lookout Park trail repairs complete ahead of spring

The City of Wrenford has finished repairing the multi-use trail at Benchlands Lookout Park, reopening the section for spring walkers, runners and cyclists. Crews completed the work ahead of schedule, ensuring the path is safe and accessible for the busy festival season.

The trail section runs along the west bank of the Tamsin River, just past the main lookout point. Winter weather and heavy snowfall caused significant cracking and heaving in the pavement, making the path uneven and difficult to navigate. City crews removed the damaged sections, replaced the base layer with fresh gravel and compacted soil, and poured a new smooth surface. The repairs also included clearing fallen branches from the surrounding ravine edge and upgrading drainage culverts to prevent future water buildup.

"The Benchlands Lookout trail is one of the most popular sections of our 64-kilometre Tamsin River Trail System," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "Getting this section fixed early means we can focus on the rest of the network throughout the year while keeping our community safe and connected."

Residents can now enjoy the repaired path as they head to the festival grounds or take a morning stroll. The City also cleaned up the surrounding picnic areas and checked all the benches and trash bins along the route. If you notice any other trail issues or want to report a problem, you can use the Service Wrenford 311 line or visit our Roads & Winter Maintenance page to find the right contact.

Safe, well-maintained trails also support local businesses and visitors who travel to the city for events like the Benchlands Folk Festival. For more information on how the City supports community spaces and local commerce, see our Economic Development page.

The repairs were made possible through the City's annual trail maintenance budget. Work on the remaining sections of the Tamsin River Trail System, including the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension, will begin later this spring.
