Work is underway to install new accessible seating and shade structures at Benchlands Lookout Park, located at 500 Benchlands Drive. The project is part of the City’s ongoing park improvement strategy and is funded through the 2025 Capital Budget.
The park is a popular gathering spot for festival-goers and visitors who come to watch the Wrenford Falls. Over the past year, staff have received feedback from neighbourhood residents that the festival grounds and the scenic lookout area lacked enough places to rest and enjoy the outdoors. The new installation will include durable, weather-resistant benches with armrests for easier access, as well as a new shade canopy near the main viewing platform.
“We heard from residents who use the festival grounds and the lookout that there simply weren’t enough places to sit and enjoy the view,” said Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. “Adding seating makes the park more comfortable for families, seniors, and visitors of all ages.”
Construction crews will begin installing the benches and canopy in early June. The work is expected to take about three weeks and will be done during regular business hours. There will be no impact on the park’s washrooms or the Tamsin River Trail access.
This project reflects the priorities residents shared during last year’s budget engagement process. Many people asked for targeted upgrades to existing parks rather than building entirely new facilities. The City is tracking spending carefully to keep property taxes stable while still improving public spaces.
