The Benchlands Folk Festival brought thousands of visitors to the historic district this past August, filling Benchlands Lookout Park with music, food and community spirit. The event drew large crowds to Fallsview and the surrounding streets, testing local traffic flow and parking capacity.
With attendance up from previous years, the City is already looking ahead to next year's festival. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team worked closely with event organizers to manage vehicle access and ensure clear routes for emergency vehicles. While the summer crowds were the focus, planning for the upcoming winter season is also underway. The City will be reviewing how festival traffic impacts nearby residential streets and how best to balance visitor access with the overnight on-street parking ban that begins December 1.
“We see the Benchlands Folk Festival as a cornerstone of our summer calendar, but we also need to ensure that the streets remain safe and accessible for everyone, year-round,” said City Manager Robert Eng. “Early coordination with the Roads & Winter Maintenance team helps us identify bottlenecks and adjust signage before the crowds arrive.”
Residents and visitors can expect updated traffic management plans for next year's event. The City will also be evaluating how the festival's parking footprint interacts with the winter maintenance schedule, particularly around the transition to snow route parking bans in December. If you are planning to attend next year, you can use Wrenford Transit or arrive early to secure parking in the Fallsview and Benchlands neighbourhoods.
