Starting January 15, 2025, the City of Wrenford will begin winter trail maintenance at Ambrel Lake Park and along the Tamsin River Trail System. Crews from the Roads & Winter Maintenance team will clear snow and apply ice melt to the main loops so you can safely walk, run, or ski through the park all season long.
The work covers the full 64-kilometre trail network, with special attention to the park trailhead, the picnic shelter area, and the boardwalk that circles the lake. Maintenance crews will use small, low-impact machines to protect the surrounding trees and natural areas. Keeping these trails clear supports the local economy by drawing visitors who stop at nearby cafés, the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre, and local shops. If you run a business near the park and want to make sure your storefront is accessible, check out our Economic Development resources for tips on winter readiness and seasonal promotions.
When you visit the park, please keep your pets on a short leash in the main loop and pick up after them. Avoid walking on the grassy areas outside the marked trails to protect the tree roots. If you see a downed branch, a damaged sign, or a section of trail that needs attention, report it through Service Wrenford or call 311. You can also visit the Parks & Trails page for a full list of park rules and winter safety tips.
"Safe trails are essential for everyone who uses the park, from dog walkers to local business owners," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We are working closely with Roads & Winter Maintenance to keep the paths open while respecting the natural environment around Ambrel Lake."
The City will continue monitoring weather conditions and adjusting maintenance schedules as the winter season progresses. For more information on how we keep public spaces open and safe, visit the City Services news page.
