Ambrel Lake Park splash pad opening delayed due to equipment inspection

The splash pad at Ambrel Lake Park will open later this spring after a routine equipment inspection revealed a valve that needs to be replaced before the season begins. Residents who planned to visit the spray park this summer will need to wait a little longer.

The City’s Parks and Trails team conducted its annual winter inspection of the Ambrel Lake Park splash pad last week. Technicians found a pressure-regulating valve showing early signs of wear. To make sure the system runs safely and efficiently for families, the valve must be swapped out and the entire system flushed and pressure-tested before the first spray of the season. This means the splash pad will not be ready for its usual late June opening. Staff expect the repairs and final safety checks to be finished by mid-July.

“We would rather take the extra time to make sure every spray zone and sensor is working perfectly than rush the opening,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “Your safety and comfort are our top priority.”

If you live in the Ambrel Lake or Southview neighbourhoods, you can still enjoy the park’s boardwalk, picnic shelters, and playground as usual. The splash pad will remain fenced off and closed to the public until further notice. Keep an eye on the Service Alerts page for updates on the new opening date. Families looking for other water play options can visit the Kingfisher Outdoor Pool or the splash pad at Wildrye Park, both of which follow the standard late June to Labour Day season.
