The City of Wrenford has approved a new capital project to upgrade the playground at Ambrel Lake Park. Council voted on May 13 to fund the improvements, which will bring accessible equipment, rubber surfacing, and new sensory play features to the site.
The project supports the city's Inclusive playgrounds framework. The upgrade will replace worn-out play panels and add a wheelchair-accessible spinner, a sensory communication panel, and smooth rubber surfacing that meets universal design standards. Parks Planner Maya Chen-Watson will oversee the work, which is designed to keep the park safe and welcoming for children of all abilities.
The park will stay open while the work is done. Crews will set up temporary fencing around the playground from June 2 to July 20, 2025. Families are asked to stay on the main trails and respect the barriers. The upgraded playground is expected to reopen for the summer season on July 21.
"Playgrounds are where our neighbourhoods come together," said Ward 4 councillor Grace Whitlock. "Making sure every child can play safely and comfortably is a priority for the Ambrel Lake community, and these upgrades will keep the park useful for years to come."
