2025-2035 strategic plan for community growth adopted by council

On July 1, 2025, Wrenford City Council adopted the new 2025-2035 Community Growth Strategic Plan during a regular meeting at City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. The plan updates the City of Wrenford Official Plan to guide how our city grows over the next ten years, ensuring development matches the needs of a 92,400-resident community.

The new strategy focuses on three main goals: creating more housing options, strengthening regional partnerships, and protecting our natural spaces. Under the Planning Act, the City must update its official plan to meet provincial housing targets. This plan identifies key growth corridors along major streets like Benchlands Drive and Ambrel Lake Road where higher-density housing is welcome. It also updates zoning rules to allow more diverse home types, such as duplexes, secondary suites, and garden suites. These changes simplify the development process and give homeowners more ways to add homes to their properties.

“This plan ensures our city grows responsibly while meeting the housing needs of our growing community,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “By planning ahead, we can make sure new neighbourhoods have the parks, trails, and services families need.”

The strategic plan also strengthens ties with neighbouring municipalities through the Regional Collaboration Committee. It sets out shared goals for transit, waste management, and emergency services, ensuring that growth in Wrenford supports the wider Southwestern Ontario region.

Following adoption, City staff will draft amendments to the Zoning By-law to match the new official plan. These changes will be reviewed by the Committee of Adjustment and put out for public feedback before becoming law under By-law 2025-118. Residents can track progress and view the full report on the Planning & Development page.
