20-year plan to revitalize Ambrel Lake Park enters implementation phase

The City of Wrenford is moving forward with a 20-year plan to revitalize Ambrel Lake Park and the surrounding shoreline. On April 8, 2025, Council approved the final concept design, kicking off the first phase of construction this fall to upgrade the boardwalk, expand the playground, and add new naturalized areas around the stormwater lake.

Ambrel Lake has long been a favourite gathering spot for families and nature lovers. Over the next two decades, crews will replace aging infrastructure and introduce features that help the park handle heavier rainfall and reduce flooding in nearby neighbourhoods. Planned improvements include a wider, accessible boardwalk that loops around the water, new native plantings to filter runoff, and additional picnic shelters with accessible washrooms. The park will remain open during construction, with some sections temporarily closed to keep visitors safe.

"We are building a park that works for the community and protects the land for the future," says City Manager Robert Eng. "This plan balances the need for better recreation space with the reality of a changing climate. By working with the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority and our Parks Planner Maya Chen-Watson, we are creating a resilient space that will serve residents for generations."

Residents can view the full 20-year master plan and the detailed construction schedule on the Ambrel Lake Park page. The City will host a series of open houses in the fall to answer questions and show progress. If you have accessibility needs or want to provide written feedback before the next phase begins, please contact the Recreation & Culture team at [email protected] or call 519-555-0100.

The first phase of work targets the north shoreline and the main picnic area. For updates on how the City is improving parks and trails across Wrenford, visit the Parks & Trails page.
