Youth council plans winter volunteer projects for seniors

Starting this winter, the Wrenford Youth Council is organizing volunteer projects to help older residents stay safe and connected across Wrenford. Young people aged 14 to 19 can join teams that shovel snow, clear walkways, and deliver groceries to seniors in their neighbourhoods.

The Young Wrenford Seniors Connect project also includes friendly visitor calls and tech help sessions. Volunteers will visit recreation centres like the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre and the Main Library branch to teach older adults how to use video calls and shop online. All equipment, gloves, and coats are provided by the City. Volunteers will complete a short safety orientation at City Hall before their first shift.

“When young people step up to help their neighbours, the whole city benefits,” said Fiona Gallagher, general manager of community services. “We are thrilled to see the Youth Council take the lead. It builds strong ties between generations and makes sure no one is left behind this winter.”

If you are a young person who wants to help, you can register online through the volunteer portal or call the Youth Council coordinator at 519-555-0140. You can also email [email protected] with any questions. If you need help or want to refer a senior, visit the Seniors section of our website for more information and support resources.
