Work to repair the roof at the Wrenford Public Library Main Branch begins this week at 150 Mercer Street. The project addresses water damage and structural wear that has built up over the years. The library board is leading the work, with support from the City's Roads & Winter Maintenance and Planning & Development teams.
Crews will be on site from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You may hear noise from equipment and see service trucks near the entrance. The library will remain open during the work, but some reading rooms and the children's area may be temporarily closed for your safety. Staff will direct you to alternate spaces.
"We want to keep the Main Branch safe and comfortable for everyone," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "These repairs will protect the building and allow us to keep offering programmes and services without interruption."
While the work is underway, the City asks that you:
- Allow extra time for visits and park in the lot on Water Street if the main curb lane is busy.
- Report any dust or debris concerns to the City's By-law Enforcement team.
- Visit the Northgate Branch or the Ambrel Lake Branch for the full range of books, computers, and programmes.
The project is expected to wrap up by the end of October 2024. Once the new roofing and waterproofing layers are in place, the building will be ready for the next decade of community use.
