The City of Wrenford has released its updated Winter Road Maintenance Plan, setting out how crews will clear snow and ice from the start of the season through March. The plan ensures that main roads, bus routes, and sidewalks stay safe and accessible for everyone as temperatures drop and snowfall picks up.
"This plan keeps our community moving and our streets safe, no matter what the weather brings," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We have stocked our salt yards, upgraded our brine trucks, and trained our crews to respond quickly to changing conditions."
The updated plan uses a six-level priority system to guide plowing and salting operations. Priority one and two routes include major arterials like Benchlands Drive, Corvid Way, and the access roads to Wrenford General Hospital and Tamsin College. These roads will be cleared on a twenty-four-hour basis whenever snow or ice accumulates. Priority three and four routes cover local residential streets and are plowed during regular business hours, usually starting the day after a snowfall ends. The City will begin plowing main roads when there is five centimetres of snow, and residential streets when there is eight centimetres.
Residents must move their vehicles off the streets during the overnight parking ban, which runs from December 1 to March 31 between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. This rule is enforced under the Highway Traffic Act and gives crews the space they need to work safely and finish routes on time. You can also request changes to your winter service stop or route by emailing [email protected], but requests must be submitted at least fourteen days before the winter season begins.
While the City handles the roads, property owners and tenants are responsible for clearing snow from their own sidewalks and driveways. The City also clears snow around bus stops and near parks. Please stay at least three car lengths back from snow plows and sanding equipment, and drive slowly on treated roads.
