Wildrye Splash Pad construction starts ahead of summer season

Construction is underway at Wildrye Park as the City of Wrenford begins building a new splash pad for families in the growing Wildrye neighbourhood. The project started this week, with crews setting up fencing and preparing the ground at 90 Wildrye Drive.

It is a busy time for city operations. Roads & Winter Maintenance crews are finishing up the overnight parking ban and clearing the last of the spring thaw debris from the streets. They are also adjusting plowing routes to give construction trucks safe access to the site. The new splash pad will feature a modern, water-efficient spray system and accessible ramps for wheelchairs and strollers. It is one of the final pieces of infrastructure for the Wildrye neighbourhood, which is still building out.

“We are working closely with the winter maintenance team to clear the site safely and get this project moving ahead of the summer schedule,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “Once the ground is ready, we will install the plumbing and the spray features. We expect it to be ready for families by late June.”

During construction, there will be temporary road closures on Wildrye Drive between Corvid Way and the new park entrance. Traffic detours will be in place. The city will post signs to guide drivers around the work zone. If you notice a pothole or a drainage issue caused by the thaw near the site, you can report it through the city’s online tools.

The splash pad will be free to use once it opens. It will follow the same hours as other city splash pads: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week, from late June until Labour Day. The city reminds residents to supervise children at all times and stay hydrated during hot weather.
