The City of Wrenford is hosting a free holiday skating special at the Westbrook Community Arena on Friday, December 6, 2024. The event is open to all ages and runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This year's special includes several features based on resident feedback. Stick and puck sessions will be available, giving participants a chance to practice hockey and ringette skills in a non-competitive environment without formal instruction or slapshots. We are also introducing a low-sensory skating period from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during which the arena lighting will be reduced, background music will be turned off, and attendance capacity will be lowered to create a quieter space for families who need it.
"We want to make sure everyone in the community can enjoy the ice this holiday season," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Whether you are a seasoned skater or just getting on the ice for the first time, this event is designed to be welcoming and fun for all ages."
Ice skate rentals will be available at the front desk for a small fee. Please bring your own gloves and warm clothing. If you do not have a helmet, the City provides free CSA-approved helmets at the rental counter.
Regular indoor public skating continues at all City arenas through March. You can find full session times, rink locations and rental information on the Public skating sessions and schedules page. If you are looking to try a new sport or activity, winter program registration is now open. Visit the Programs page for the full schedule and to register online.
