Starting May 15, the City of Wrenford will activate Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions across the city. We are taking this step because of unusually dry conditions and the forecast for hotter weather. Following these rules will help us keep enough treated water in our system for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
Under Stage 2, you will only be able to water your lawn on a set schedule. If your street address is an even number, water on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If it is an odd number, water on Wednesdays and Fridays. The allowed window is from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. If you use an automatic sprinkler timer, set it to turn on between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. so your lawn gets watered before the window opens.
You can still water trees, shrubs, and flowers any day of the week. Use a hand-held hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle, or install drip irrigation. Vegetable gardens may be watered at any time. Automatic sprinklers for lawns and flower beds are not allowed during Stage 2.
We know changing your routine takes a little effort. City Manager Robert Eng says, "Conserving water now means we will have a reliable supply throughout the summer. Every drop you save helps keep pressure high and protects our system during peak demand."
These restrictions will stay in place until October 15, unless the weather changes and we need to move to Stage 3 or Stage 4. You can check your permitted watering times in the Wrenford 311 app or on our website. If you see someone violating the rules, you can report it online, through the app, or by calling 311. Violations can lead to fines under Water and Wastewater By-law 2017-090.
