Spring street sweeping begins across Wrenford

The City of Wrenford has started its annual spring street sweeping program across all six wards. Beginning today, April 1, crews will clean sand, salt, and winter debris from boulevards, major roads, and residential streets to keep our streets safe and protect our stormwater systems.

The sweeping work runs for about eight weeks and happens in two phases. Phase one, which started today, covers high-traffic areas like the downtown core on Mercer and Tamsin Streets, the Benchlands Drive corridor, and the areas around Wrenford General Hospital and Tamsin College. During this first phase, crews work up to 18 hours a day, Monday through Saturday.

Phase two begins in mid-April and will focus on residential neighbourhoods. During all sweeping operations, parking is not allowed on streets that are scheduled. Vehicles left in no-parking zones may receive a parking ticket and be towed at the owner’s expense so crews can clean the full width of the road. Crews will post signs in each neighbourhood to show when sweeping is taking place.

Residents can find out when crews will be in their area by visiting Roads & Winter Maintenance or calling 519-555-0112. Street sweeping can create dust, so please close your windows and use sidewalks away from the work zone when possible. If you see sweeping equipment, please slow down and leave plenty of space.

"Spring street sweeping is a vital part of keeping Wrenford clean and protecting our storm drains," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We appreciate residents helping us out by moving their cars when signs are posted so crews can do their jobs safely and efficiently."
