The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce that the Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard is open to the public again as of Friday, November 15, 2024. The facility closed on September 1 for a planned two-month renewal to improve safety and modernize the building.
During the closure, crews replaced the worn pool deck, upgraded the water filtration and heating systems, and renovated the change rooms and shower areas. These upgrades will reduce future maintenance and keep the facility running smoothly for years to come. While the main work inside the building is finished, crews are still painting the exterior and cleaning up the parking lot during regular hours.
“The reopening of the Northgate Aquatic Centre is a big win for our community,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “I want to thank our residents for their patience while the work was underway, and to our construction teams who worked hard to deliver these important safety upgrades. We are excited to have the pool back for lap swimmers, aquafit classes, and swimming lessons.”
All aquatic programming is back on schedule. Public swim, lap swim, aquafit, and swimming lessons resume today. The 50-metre pool, dive tank, and waterslide are fully operational. Because the Kingfisher Outdoor Pool is closed for the season, Northgate is currently the only aquatic facility in the city offering these programmes.
Swimmers can now register for fall and winter classes through the online registration portal. You can also check current operating hours to plan your visits. If you need to change a booking, please review the cancellation policy on the city website.
The City appreciates your patience during the renewal period. For more information on all city recreation spaces, visit the Facilities page.
