New short-term rental licensing rules take effect in Wrenford

Starting September 15, 2024, the City of Wrenford is rolling out new rules for anyone who wants to rent out a home or apartment for 90 consecutive days or less. These changes are designed to keep our neighbourhoods stable, protect the local housing supply, and ensure all short-term operators play by the same rules as long-term businesses.

Under the new framework, every short-term rental must have a valid business licence. We have created two clear categories to match how you use your property. If you are renting out a room or your entire home where you live, it is a principal residence licence. If you own a separate investment property or a secondary suite, it is a secondary property licence. Both options require you to register with the City and pay the annual fee. You can find the exact fee amounts and a full breakdown on our Business Licences page.

Getting licensed is simple. You will apply through the City's online portal and submit a few basic documents to confirm your property meets safety standards. Processing takes about three business days. Once approved, your licence is valid for one year and must be renewed each fall. If you need help with the application, the Economic Development team is ready to assist. You can reach them by email at [email protected] or by calling 519-555-0100.

"We want Wrenford to remain a welcoming destination for visitors while making sure housing stays available for our residents," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These clear rules help us strike that balance and give property owners a straightforward path to operate legally and safely."

Please take action now to avoid any delays. Visit the Short-term rental business licence page to download the application form, review the full policy, and submit your registration before the September 15 deadline.
