City Council approved a new economic development strategy on January 18, 2024, setting clear growth targets for the next five years. The plan focuses on strengthening Wrenford’s core industries, improving infrastructure, and supporting local businesses across all six wards.
The strategy builds on Wrenford’s strengths as a service centre for Southwestern Ontario’s farm country. It identifies six priority sectors for growth: automotive parts manufacturing, food processing, health care, Tamsin College partnerships, logistics, and retail. The plan also outlines investments in digital infrastructure, transit improvements, and downtown revitalization to attract new investment and create jobs for residents.
Public consultation ran through the fall of 2023, gathering feedback from business owners, Tamsin College representatives, and community groups. The strategy responds directly to that input by prioritising workforce training partnerships and small business grants.
“Wrenford has always been built on hard work and community spirit,” says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “This strategy gives us a clear roadmap to diversify our economy, support the businesses that employ our neighbours, and ensure that growth benefits every ward.”
The City will begin implementing the strategy immediately. You can access new support programmes through the Downtown Wrenford BIA and the Economic Development office. You can learn about job placement services or upcoming infrastructure projects at the first community information session in February at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre.
