Housing accelerator fund grant applications open November 1

The City of Wrenford is accepting grant applications for the Housing Accelerator Fund starting November 1, 2024. City Council approved the programme last month to help build more housing across the city over the next three years.

The fund supports projects through three new grant streams. The Missing Middle Housing Grant offers up to $150,000 to developers who build duplexes, triplexes, or fourplexes on existing residential lots. The Construction Challenge Grant provides up to $150,000 for projects that solve specific building hurdles in Wrenford, such as working on steep slopes or tight urban sites. The Rental Stock Retention Grant awards up to $50,000 to non-profit organizations and landlords who upgrade existing rental units and keep rents affordable for tenants.

"We are giving developers and non-profits a real head start on building the kinds of homes our community needs," said City Manager Robert Eng. "These grants are designed to remove roadblocks and make it easier to get projects off the ground."

Eligible applicants include developers, non-profit housing providers, and landlords. Projects must show how they will increase housing supply or improve affordability in fully serviced areas of the city. The first intake round runs from November 1 to November 30, 2024. Funding will be committed through quarterly cycles as money becomes available.
