The City of Wrenford has released the initial Tamsin Valley Flood Mitigation Study for public review. Residents can review the draft report, attend a drop-in session, or submit written feedback through the Planning applications portal until May 10, 2024.
The study builds on the flood-mitigation program the City started after the 2005 flood along Riverside Flats. It looks at how to protect the downtown core, the Centennial Bridge, and nearby neighbourhoods from future flood risks. The City is working closely with the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority to make sure the plan matches provincial floodplain rules and the flood development guidelines we follow.
You can view the full draft report, see maps of the areas being studied, and leave comments online. If you prefer to speak with staff in person, drop-ins will be held at Wrenford City Hall on April 2 and April 9 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Staff will also be available at the Downtown Transit Terminal on April 16.
"This study ensures we are building a safer, more resilient city for everyone," says City Manager Robert Eng. "We want to hear from you so we can make sure the final plan works for all of our neighbourhoods."
Once the feedback period closes, staff will prepare a summary report for Council. The final study will guide future Development Applications, building permits, and infrastructure projects along the Tamsin River. For questions about the study, how to apply for a floodplain permit, or to request a printed copy, email [email protected] or call 519-555-0100.
