If you are looking to explore a career in emergency services, the Wrenford Fire Rescue is recruiting holiday relief firefighters for the May to October 2024 season. These positions bring community members into the department to support fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and medical first response across Wrenford.
These roles offer a practical way for you to gain valuable experience while working alongside full-time crews on scheduled shifts. The department welcomes people with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences who are eager to train and serve. You can adjust your shift schedule to fit other jobs or school timetables.
"The Wrenford Fire Rescue is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that truly reflects the communities we protect," says Fire Chief Darren MacAulay. "We prioritize equity in our hiring process and are looking for dedicated individuals who are ready to learn, adapt, and keep our city safe."
Before you move forward in the hiring process, you must pass the Wrenford Fire Applicant Fitness Assessment. The fitness test covers seven stations that measure cardiovascular endurance, strength, and agility. You will complete a cardiovascular test, equipment carry, hose drag, sled pull, forceable entry, victim rescue, and ladder climb. For all stations except the cardiovascular test, you will wear a 20-kilogram weighted vest. The test is challenging but ensures every firefighter has the physical capacity to safely evacuate victims and perform rescue duties in any emergency.
You can submit your applications through the Careers portal. The deadline to apply is May 10, 2024. An information session will be held on April 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 210 Water Street, or via a live virtual link. You can attend to learn about the daily duties, training pathway, and how to prepare for the fitness assessment.
