Eastfield Twin Arenas reopens on March 22 after emergency roof repairs following a severe ice storm earlier this month. The City's infrastructure and parks teams worked through the weekend to clear heavy ice accumulation and secure the building's canopy.
During the storm, the weight of the ice caused a section of the roof structure to buckle. Crews installed temporary support beams and replaced damaged panels to keep the facility safe. The building underwent a thorough safety review and was inspected by structural engineers and the City's Chief Building Official. The assessment confirmed that the site meets all required safety standards for public use.
"We put the safety of skaters, league players and staff ahead of everything else," says Robert Eng, City Manager. "Our crews worked around the clock to get the ice cleared and the roof secured so you can get back to your games and practices as quickly as possible."
Both ice pads are now open for public skating, public hockey, and league registration. Summer ball hockey programming is also back on the schedule. Drop-in sessions and community league play will resume as planned without the need for advance registration.
