The City of Wrenford is pleased to confirm that the ice resurfacing and refrigeration system upgrade at the Eastfield Twin Arenas is complete ahead of schedule. The project, located at 620 Eastfield Road in the Eastfield neighbourhood, wraps up two weeks before the first public skate of the winter season.
The upgrade replaces the arena’s older cooling pipes with a modern, energy-efficient system. The new setup uses less electricity and keeps the ice smooth and consistent for figure skating, hockey leagues, and community programming. Workers also refreshed the boards, added new seating in the main stand, and installed LED lighting to improve visibility for evening games.
The City funded the $450,000 project through its long-term capital improvement plan for recreation facilities. By finishing early, crews avoided delays that often happen when work runs into the colder months. The arenas will open for public skating and league bookings starting the first weekend of November.
Residents who want to book ice time or sign up for winter recreation programs can visit the Recreation & Culture page to see the full schedule and make reservations. Winter registration opens the first Monday of December, so mark your calendar and check the Recreation & Culture page for updates.
“Getting this work done early means we can focus on keeping the ice safe and the rinks comfortable for everyone this winter,” says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. “It’s a great example of how planned maintenance saves money and keeps services running smoothly.”
The City continues to upgrade its community facilities to meet the needs of a growing population. For more information about facility bookings, maintenance schedules, and future capital projects, visit the Planning & Development section of our website or contact the Recreation & Culture office.
