Council sets priorities for 2025 including housing and safety initiatives

City Council approved a set of four key priorities for 2025 at its regular meeting on Monday, December 9. These focus areas will guide the City’s work over the coming year and shape the upcoming budget process.

The new priorities build on the City’s long-term goals and respond to feedback from residents across the six wards. They are designed to keep services strong, support growing neighbourhoods, and make sure every voice is heard.

The four priorities are:

Housing and Neighbourhood Stability

Wrenford will continue to expand supportive housing and work with local partners to prevent homelessness. The City will also review zoning bylaws to encourage more affordable rental options and protect existing neighbourhoods from sudden change.

Community Safety and Well-being

Public safety remains a top concern. The City will strengthen partnerships with the Wrenford Police Service, Wrenford Fire Rescue, and Tamsin Valley Public Health. Funding will go toward community programmes that keep families safe and help vulnerable residents access care.

Financial Stewardship and Infrastructure

The City will focus on keeping property taxes stable while maintaining essential services. This means investing in road repairs, water main replacements, and winter maintenance, while finding ways to reduce operating costs across departments.

Clear Communication and Community Trust

You have asked for more transparency. The City will improve how it shares information, expand ward newsletters, and host more drop-in sessions so you can speak directly with staff and your local councillor.

“These priorities show where we need to focus to make Wrenford a better place for everyone,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “We are listening to what you have told us, and we are making sure our work in 2025 reflects those needs.”

City Manager Robert Eng added that administration will turn these goals into day-to-day actions. “Our job is to make sure Council’s priorities become real results on the ground,” he said. “We will track progress closely and report back to the community throughout the year.”

The approved priorities will be used to prepare the 2025 Operating and Capital Budget. Council will review the proposed budget at a series of public meetings starting in February 2025. You can attend in person at Wrenford City Hall or watch the livestream.
