On July 10, 2024, City Council approved the rezoning of two sites at 350 Corvid Way and 1200 Ambrel Lake Road. The approved plans call for two new buildings that will together provide 136 social housing units with supports.
The City, Province, and Federal governments are working together to tackle the urgent need for deeply affordable housing and to help people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. These new buildings will give residents safe, stable homes along with onsite and in-reach support services to help them thrive.
The Corvid Way site will offer 68 units, while the Ambrel Lake Road site will provide another 68 units. The future homes will include individual supportive housing units for a wide range of residents, including seniors, people living with disabilities, and those navigating mental health or addiction challenges.
This project is part of the City's broader commitment to expand permanent supportive housing across Wrenford. Non-profit housing providers were selected through a competitive process to manage and operate these sites. Wrenford Neighbourhood Housing will run the Corvid Way location, and Tamsin Valley Supportive Living Society will manage the Ambrel Lake Road location.
City Council approved the rezonings following a public hearing earlier this month. The rezonings now move to the enactment phase, followed by development permit applications. Construction is expected to begin once all permits are in place.
'Securing quality housing for Wrenford's most vulnerable residents is a significant priority for our Council,' said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. 'We are incredibly excited to support these two permanent supportive housing projects and to see them become safe, welcoming homes for our neighbours.'
The City will continue to work with government partners and non-profit organizations to find more opportunities for social and supportive housing. If you or someone you know is looking for housing support, you can find more information at the links below.
