Wrenford City Council approved the 2025 operating budget on Monday, November 11, 2024. The budget includes a 2.5 per cent property tax increase to maintain and improve essential services, roads, and parks across the city.
The approved budget allocates funding for public safety, transit, waste collection, and recreational facilities. It also supports ongoing repairs to the Tamsin River Trail System and upgrades to the Ambrel Lake Park boardwalk. A portion of the budget is set aside for climate adaptation projects, including new stormwater management upgrades and energy-efficient lighting in community centres. The capital budget for 2025 totals $142 million, focusing on road resurfacing, water main replacements, and the continued expansion of the Wildrye neighbourhood parkland.
"The 2025 budget reflects what Wrenford residents told us during our engagement sessions," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We have kept the tax increase modest while investing in the infrastructure and services that keep our city safe, clean, and connected. This plan ensures we can maintain our current service levels and continue making long-term improvements for all neighbourhoods."
Council also approved the Downtown Business Association’s 2025 budget, which will support local business promotion and downtown events. The City collects the Business Improvement Area levy on behalf of the association to help fund these downtown-focused initiatives.
Property tax notices will be mailed in the coming weeks. The 2.5 per cent increase applies to the City of Wrenford portion only. Your total tax bill will also include amounts for the provincial school tax and other local authorities.
