Wrenford City Council approved the 2024 operating budget at its meeting on January 23, 2024. The approved budget totals $342.5 million and includes an average property tax increase of 3.9 per cent. This increase will fund essential city services, infrastructure renewal, and reserve replenishment for the 2024–2030 council term.
The 3.9 per cent increase breaks down into several key areas. A 1.2 per cent increase supports the ongoing repair and replacement of roads, bridges, and water mains across the city. An additional 0.8 per cent goes into financial reserves to ensure the city can handle unexpected costs and maintain long-term stability. The budget includes a 1.5 per cent allocation for the Wrenford Police Service, in line with the service's board priorities, to cover rising operational costs and staffing needs. The remaining 0.4 per cent helps balance general service adjustments across all departments.
"This budget reflects our commitment to keeping taxes manageable while ensuring we can maintain safe streets, reliable transit, and responsive community programs," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We worked closely with city managers and department heads to make sure every dollar supports what residents need most."
The 3.9 per cent increase results in the following average annual property tax changes for 2024:
- $28.00 for a condo or strata unit (assessed at $750,000)
- $49.00 for a residential property overall (assessed at $1,250,000)
- $74.00 for a single-family home (assessed at $1,900,000)
- $156.00 for a business property (assessed at $1,100,000)
Your actual tax notice will differ from these averages. The final amount depends on your property's assessed value and how that value changed compared to the average change in your property class. These estimates cover the City of Wrenford portion of your taxes only. Your tax bill will also include utility fees, provincial school taxes, and levies from other taxing authorities.
The final budget documents are now available on the Budget page. Property tax interim and final bills will be mailed later this year.
