Council adopts 2024-2027 strategic plan for sustainable growth

City Council approved the 2024–2027 Strategic Plan for Sustainable Growth on Monday, September 16, 2024, setting the direction for the city through the 2026 municipal election. The plan outlines priorities for housing, infrastructure, and community services, and will guide department budgets and development applications across all six wards.

The strategy builds on the City of Wrenford Official Plan and the Zoning By-law 2016-040, with a strong focus on completing the Wildrye neighbourhood, improving the Tamsin River Trail System, and expanding affordable housing near transit hubs. It also sets clear targets for waste diversion and winter maintenance response times. Staff will use the plan to evaluate new applications, including site plan controls, minor variances, and zoning amendments.

“This plan gives our teams a clear roadmap and gives residents the assurance that we are building for the long term,” said City Manager Robert Eng. “Every dollar we spend and every application we process this term will tie back to these goals.”

Residents can view the full strategy online and see how it affects upcoming projects in their neighbourhood. If you have a development application in progress, staff will align their reviews with the new priorities. You can track the progress of these goals through the new Sustainable Growth Progress Dashboard, which will be updated quarterly at City Council meetings.
