City secures $14 million for housing infrastructure

On April 10, 2024, the City of Wrenford announced that it has secured $14 million in federal funding to support housing infrastructure. This investment will help the City prepare sites, upgrade water and sewer connections, and expand capacity for affordable housing projects across all six wards.

The funding comes from the Federal Housing Infrastructure Program, which supports municipalities as they grow and meet housing needs. Wrenford will use the money to remove bottlenecks in the water and wastewater systems, particularly in the Wildrye and Northgate neighbourhoods where new housing is planned. It will also cover the cost of site servicing, road extensions, and stormwater upgrades needed for future residential developments.

“We are thrilled to secure this funding, which will directly support our goal of building more homes for more people,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “By upgrading our infrastructure now, we are clearing the path for developers and non-profits to break ground on affordable rental and ownership projects sooner.”

The City will work with the Wrenford Police Service, Tamsin Valley Public Health, and local utility partners to ensure all new infrastructure meets provincial standards. Applications for related building and development permits will continue through the standard process on the Housing page.

If you own a home in a targeted neighbourhood, you will receive a notice when crews arrive for water and sewer upgrades. You can also report any road or drainage concerns to City Services at 519-555-0100.

You can track these upgrades and learn about upcoming projects on the Housing section of the City website.
