The City of Wrenford is launching a new mandatory short-term rental registry for all properties in the downtown core, effective January 1, 2025. The program aims to monitor the impact of short-term rentals on housing availability and neighbourhood character while supporting local businesses.
Owners of short-term rental units in the downtown boundary—roughly bounded by Mercer, Tamsin, Water, and Fallsview Streets—must register their properties through the Wrenford eLicence Portal. The registry will track occupancy rates and ensure compliance with the city's short-term rental by-law. Owners must also display their unique registration number on all online listing platforms.
To get started, visit the Short-term rental business licence page to download the registration form. Registration is free for current licence holders, with a $25.00 administrative fee for new applicants. The Business Licences team will process your application within five business days. Please submit all forms by December 31, 2024, to avoid delays.
"We want to ensure that short-term rentals complement our downtown revitalization efforts without displacing long-term residents or straining neighbourhood infrastructure," said City Manager Robert Eng. "This registry gives us the data we need to make informed decisions about housing and tourism in the core."
The initiative is part of the City's broader strategy to balance visitor growth with housing stability. For more information on how short-term rentals fit into Wrenford's downtown future, visit the Economic Development section of the website.
