City announces 2024 heritage awards for conservation excellence

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Heritage Awards. The honours were presented at the City Council meeting on September 18, 2024, in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall.

The Heritage Awards programme recognizes property owners, community groups, and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to preserving Wrenford's built and living heritage. This year's recipients were selected by the Heritage Development Board after a review of local projects that restored historic buildings, shared community stories, and protected significant landscapes.

"Wrenford's history is what makes our city unique, and these award winners show us how to protect it for the future," says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "Whether it is restoring a century-old home on Mill Street or sharing the stories of our riverside neighbours, every effort keeps our heritage alive and brings our community closer together."

Winners in this year's cycle were honoured across three categories: Heritage Conservation, which celebrates the restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings; Living Heritage, which highlights projects that share the self-expressed histories of our diverse communities; and Education and Awareness, which recognises publications, exhibits, and community activities that bring heritage to life.

If you have a project or initiative that preserved a piece of Wrenford's past, you can submit it for consideration next year. Applications for the 2025 awards open on October 15, 2024. All eligible projects must have been completed within the past six years.
