Canada Day 2024 road closures announced for July 1

Motorists are advised of upcoming road closures on Monday, July 1, to accommodate Canada Day in the Park at Centennial Gardens. The closures will run from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. as crews set up the event lawn and visitors arrive for the day's activities.

From 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 1, the following streets will be closed to through traffic:

  • Market Square between Victoria Street and Water Street
  • Victoria Street between Market Square and Fallsview Road
  • Water Street between Market Square and Church Street
  • Albert Street between Water Street and Tamsin Street

All temporary closures will be staffed for the duration of the event. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes. If you need to drive through the downtown core, please use Benchlands Drive or Eastfield Road to bypass the closed areas.

"We expect a large turnout for our annual Canada Day celebrations," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "These closures allow us to safely host the event and keep pedestrians and vehicles separated. We appreciate residents and visitors who plan their trips around the closure times."

If your business is located in the downtown area and you need to access your property during the closure, please contact the Roads & Winter Maintenance team in advance so we can arrange a temporary access permit. You can also call 519-555-0100 or email [email protected] for questions about the detour routes.
