The City of Wrenford has finished repairing a damaged section of the Tamsin River Trail at Benchlands Lookout Park. Crews completed the work on March 18, reopening the trail after a late-winter storm brought heavy snow and high winds that washed out a boardwalk and dropped a large branch across the path.
The damage was discovered on Monday, March 11, when a resident reported a blocked trail near the festival grounds. Roads & Winter Maintenance crews cleared the debris, while Parks & Trails staff replaced the washed-out wooden boardwalk and reinforced the trail bed near the creek crossing. A temporary detour kept pedestrians and cyclists moving safely along the main route while the repairs were underway.
"We know how much the neighbourhood relies on the trail system for commuting and exercise," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Getting this section back in good shape means you can safely enjoy the path all season long, and we appreciate everyone who followed the detour signs while we worked."
The repair work included stabilizing the soil along the creek bank, laying fresh gravel, and installing new handrails where the boardwalk was rebuilt. The City also took the opportunity to upgrade a small section of the trail with better drainage to prevent similar washouts in the future.
If you notice any other trail issues, such as downed trees, ice patches, or drainage problems, you can report them through the Service Wrenford service line at 519-555-0100. The City inspects all major trailheads weekly during the spring thaw and will continue regular maintenance through the summer.
