The City of Wrenford is awarding a $45,000 grant to the Benchlands Curling Club to upgrade its ice plant this winter. Located at 430 Benchlands Drive, the City-owned and club-operated facility will receive a new refrigeration system that uses less electricity and delivers a more consistent playing surface.
The current compressor and cooling pipes will be replaced over the off-season. The upgraded system is designed to cut energy use while keeping the ice at the perfect temperature for curling and public skating. The Benchlands Curling Club will manage the installation work and will notify members of any short-term closures needed for the final hook-ups.
The Benchlands Curling Club has been a cornerstone of our community for decades, and supporting its operations helps keep sports accessible for everyone, said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. This grant ensures the club can maintain its rinks safely and efficiently while we all work toward a more sustainable future.
