The Benchlands Curling Club will close overnight on January 15, 2024, for ice resurfacing and routine maintenance. The ice sheet will reopen for public skating and league play on the morning of January 16.
City-owned but club-operated, the facility at 430 Benchlands Drive requires regular ice care to keep the surface safe for players. The one-night closure allows the club's maintenance crew to smooth the ice, check the refrigeration system, and complete minor repairs to the seating and concession areas.
For residents who planned to visit on the evening of January 15, please check the facility directory for other open ice rinks in the city. The Westbrook Community Arena and Eastfield Twin Arenas will remain open as usual. You can also view daily operating hours and book ice time through the recreation booking portal. For general inquiries, see the contact page.
Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services, said the short shutdown is necessary to keep the rinks in top condition for winter sports. "A smooth, consistent ice sheet is the foundation of a safe and enjoyable curling season. We appreciate residents' patience while we get the ice ready," Gallagher said.
