Ambrel Lake Park winter trails close as spring thaw begins

The City of Wrenford will close the winter trails at Ambrel Lake Park on Monday, March 25, 2024, as warmer temperatures begin to soften the ground. The decision follows a routine review of park conditions and recent direction from Council on protecting green spaces.

As the snow melts, the trails become muddy and soft. Walking or cycling on them now can cause deep ruts and damage the plant life along the path. Closing the trails now gives the soil time to dry out and recover before the next cold snap.

"Protecting our parks and trails is a top priority for the City," said Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Closing the trails while the ground is still wet prevents long-term damage and keeps the park safe for everyone when it reopens."

Residents who use the trails for their daily walk or commute can take these alternatives:

The trails will reopen in late November 2024, once the ground is frozen and covered with snow. The City will post a notice on our website when it is safe to return.

If you see damage to the trails or notice someone walking off the path, please report it by calling 311 or visiting our Parks & Trails report page. Thank you for helping us care for Wrenford's parks.
