Ambrel Lake Park playground equipment installation begins

Construction crews began installing new playground equipment at Ambrel Lake Park on Tuesday, May 14. The project will add modern, accessible play structures and safer surfacing to the existing park amenities. Residents can expect increased activity at the site through early June.

The new equipment was chosen after feedback from community members who wanted a space that better serves children of all ages and abilities. The installation includes a larger climbing frame, a sensory play panel, and a rubberized safety surface that replaces the older wood chip area. The City also added new picnic tables and benches near the playground so caregivers have a comfortable place to watch.

During the installation, the playground area will be closed to the public. Crews will use small trucks to move materials, so expect some temporary noise and limited vehicle access along Ambrel Lake Road. If you need to park nearby, please follow the detour signs or use the lot at Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre. For questions about parking and traffic changes during the work, visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance page. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team will clear snow and ice from the work zone daily to keep crews and residents safe.

The project is part of the City's ongoing effort to refresh public parks and keep them safe for families. While the equipment is being installed, the park's boardwalk, picnic shelters, and open grass areas remain open. The City's Parks & Trails team will continue regular maintenance, including grass cutting and litter collection, around the construction zone.

"The new playground is a great example of how listening to residents leads to better public spaces," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We wanted to make sure this area is welcoming and safe for every family who visits Ambrel Lake Park."

Crews expect to finish the installation and reopen the playground to the public by the end of June. Once open, the City will continue to monitor the equipment and perform routine safety checks. If you notice any damage or need to report a maintenance issue at the park, please call 311.
