Applications for the Wrenford Affordable Housing Grant Program open on August 12, 2024, and will remain open until October 11, 2024. The program is designed to help non-profit housing providers and private developers build new affordable and supportive housing units across the city. By providing direct funding, the City of Wrenford aims to increase the supply of homes that are within reach for working families and older residents.
Eligible projects can receive up to $15,000 per affordable unit for non-profit organizations and up to $10,000 per unit for private developers. Each project can be awarded a maximum of $300,000, with an additional $50,000 available for projects that use innovative designs, such as missing-middle housing, or meet strict green building standards. Applicants must propose a minimum of eight new units and show proof of support from a provincial or federal funding partner.
"The expansion of our housing supply is one of our most important priorities," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This grant program turns community-led plans into real homes, giving developers the financial push they need to break ground quickly and keep rents affordable for years to come."
To apply, visit the Apply for affordable housing page on our website or use the Wrenford ePermits portal to upload your project details and financial plans. You can also pick up a printed application packet at the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall. Our housing team is holding drop-in clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to review drafts and answer questions.
Selected applicants will have 18 months to secure all necessary building permits and begin construction. Funding will be released in stages as the project reaches key milestones, starting with the foundation pour. All units must remain at or below the set affordable rent rate for a period of 15 years after completion.
