Wrenford Ice Days returns to Ambrel Lake with new ice sculpture contest

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce that Wrenford Ice Days returns to Ambrel Lake for Family Day weekend in February 2024. This year's festival adds a brand-new ice sculpture contest to the lineup of free outdoor activities for residents and visitors. The event takes place Saturday, February 17, and Sunday, February 18, around the park near the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre.

The ice sculpture contest invites local artists and community teams to carve detailed figures out of large ice blocks. Participants can enter as individuals or in groups of up to five people. All materials, including ice chisels and safety gear, will be provided on site. A panel of judges from the Arts & Heritage team will award prizes for categories like Best Use of Colour, Most Creative Design, and Audience Choice. Residents who want to enter must register by February 10 by emailing [email protected] or calling 519-555-0100.

Families can also enjoy ice skating on the outdoor rink at the recreation centre, hot chocolate stations along the boardwalk, and live music from local musicians. The event is designed to be fully accessible, with heated restrooms and a covered viewing area for those who need a break from the cold.

"We are thrilled to bring Wrenford Ice Days back to Ambrel Lake this year," said Events Coordinator Rosa Castellano. "Adding an ice sculpture contest gives families a creative reason to bundle up and enjoy the river valley together."

Attendees should dress in warm, layered clothing and wear sturdy boots. Free parking is available in the Ambrel Lake Park lot, and Wrenford Transit Route 9 stops at the south gate every thirty minutes.
