Starting Monday, November 20, City crews across Wrenford have switched to collecting green bins every two weeks instead of every week. This seasonal change will stay in effect through the winter months and aligns your organics pickup with your regular garbage day. Weekly green bin service will resume on Monday, March 4, 2024.
The shift to a biweekly schedule helps keep waste collection running smoothly when snow, ice, and shorter daylight hours slow down our routes. During the colder months, households produce less yard waste and food scraps, and the longer wait between pickups helps keep odours down. The change also reduces wear and tear on our sanitation trucks, which are working hard in tough winter conditions. We are currently working on replacing parts of our fleet, but some new trucks may be delayed due to ongoing supply chain challenges.
To make sure your green bin is picked up on time, please follow these simple steps:
- Place your green bin at the curb or on the street next to your garbage bin on your regular collection day.
- Keep the lid closed and do not overfill it.
- Check the Wrenford 311 app or visit Garbage & Recycling online for your exact schedule and service alerts.
If your bin was missed or needs special handling, call 311 or visit City Services to report it. We appreciate your patience as our crews work to keep Wrenford clean and safe through the winter. For more information on how we manage organic waste and support local green spaces, visit Parks & Trails.
"Switching to a biweekly schedule is a practical way to protect our staff and our trucks while ensuring every household gets reliable service," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "We know winter routes can be tricky, and your cooperation makes a real difference."
