Overnight parking ban rules announced for Wrenford winter season

The City of Wrenford is reminding all residents that the overnight parking ban will run from December 1 to March 31 across the city. The ban takes effect each night from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. to help Roads & Winter Maintenance crews clear snow from all streets, especially narrow ones in older neighbourhoods, so emergency vehicles and residents can get through safely.

Under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097, vehicles must be moved off the street during these hours. Any cars left out will be ticketed or towed at the owner's risk and expense. The City is also asking businesses and residents who store heavy equipment in parking spots to plan ahead and move their vehicles before the ban starts each night.

Main roads are plowed first when there is five centimetres of snow, followed by residential streets at eight centimetres. The overnight ban makes it possible for plows to push snow back from the curbs and clear the full width of the road. If the snow does not reach these amounts, crews will not run overnight, and the ban will not be in effect.

"You want your car in the garage or a legal lot before two in the morning," says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "It keeps our streets safe and makes sure everyone can get home or to the hospital without waiting for a plow."

Residents can find out if a ban is active by checking the Service Alerts or calling 311. If a ban is in effect, residents can park in City-owned lots that are open overnight, such as the ramp parking on Ferris Street or the lot behind Wrenford City Hall. These lots clear their vehicles by 6:30 a.m. on weekdays.

The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as we work to keep Wrenford moving all winter long.
