Lights at the Falls draws record crowds for holiday season kickoff

The City of Wrenford's annual holiday season kickoff, Lights at the Falls, welcomed a record 12,000 visitors to the downtown core last weekend. The event, held along Fallsview Road and Centennial Gardens from November 24 to 26, 2023, featured thousands of LED lights, live music, and local food vendors.

Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price joined residents and visitors to officially switch on the holiday display. "Lights at the Falls has grown into a beloved tradition that brings our community together," said Okafor-Price. "Seeing over 12,000 people out in the cold to celebrate the season is a testament to the spirit of Wrenford."

The event highlighted the city's new sensory-friendly evening on November 25, offering reduced noise levels, calm zones, and non-flashing displays for neurodiverse attendees and their families. Local artists from the Fallsview Arts Centre also showcased interactive light installations inspired by the surrounding Tamsin River landscape.

Food vendors lined the streets of the Fallsview neighbourhood, offering everything from warm cider to gluten-free pastries. Proceeds from vendor fees and merchandise sales were donated to a local community charity, raising over $8,500 for families in need.

The City would like to thank the volunteers, local businesses, and the Wrenford Police Service for their support in keeping the event safe and accessible. The holiday lights will remain illuminated through December 31, 2023, allowing residents to enjoy the festive atmosphere throughout the season.
