City Council approved $4.2 million in grants for local arts and culture organizations on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The decision was made during the regular council meeting at City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. This funding will support 92 organizations and projects across Wrenford.
The money is divided into four programs to help different parts of the city's creative community:
- Arts & Heritage Operating Grants: $2.1 million to 38 local groups for day-to-day costs.
- Neighbourhood Small Events Fund: $950,000 to 42 projects for festivals and cultural shows.
- Multi-year Cultural Stability Fund: $800,000 to 12 groups for longer-term projects.
- Emergency Arts Repair Grant: $350,000 for urgent building and equipment fixes.
“Investing in our artists and cultural groups is an investment in the heart of Wrenford,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “These grants will help keep our neighbourhoods vibrant, bring people together, and grow our local creative economy.”
The funding aligns with the city's long-term cultural strategy, which aims to make arts and culture accessible to everyone, no matter where they live. Grants will support projects in neighbourhoods from Downtown to Wildrye, ensuring that every community has a chance to showcase its unique heritage and creative talent.
If you run a local arts or culture group, you can apply for the next round of grants starting in January 2024. You will need to submit your application through the Grants page. A full list of the 92 organizations funded in this round is also posted there. For questions, email [email protected].
