Council adopts 2023-2026 strategic plan for sustainable growth

Wrenford City Council adopted the 2023–2026 Strategic Plan for sustainable growth on Monday, November 6, 2023, at City Hall. The plan lays out the city's priorities and direction for the current council term, setting a clear path for how we manage growth, protect our environment, and invest in community services over the next four years.

The strategy was shaped by months of community conversations and feedback from residents, business owners, and neighbourhood groups. City staff used these insights to build a plan that balances new development with the need for green space, reliable transit, and affordable housing.

"This plan is a blueprint for the important work the City undertakes for the benefit of the entire community," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "It ensures that every decision we make today helps us build the community we all want to see for years to come."

The strategy rests on three main pillars. First, a thriving local economy driven by a healthy business community and a vibrant downtown. Second, community health and wellbeing, which means protecting the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek ravines while expanding parks and trails. Third, a connected and engaged city where residents feel heard in decisions about how their neighbourhoods change.

For property owners and developers, the plan directly guides the development application process. It sets expectations for how new projects will be reviewed against the Official Plan and ensures that growth is matched with the necessary roads, water systems, and transit routes. The plan also highlights the need to streamline approvals through the Committee of Adjustment and supports infrastructure upgrades in growing areas like Wildrye and Northgate.

Residents can track how the city meets its goals by watching council meetings and reviewing the annual progress reports. All updates are posted on the news page, and you can join the conversation at any council meeting.
